So, you want to try a new hair color. Something completely different. But you aren’t sure what brand to try. If you’re considering trying Artic Fox Hair Dye but aren’t sure if it’s right for you, we have everything you need to know right here.
Gone are the days when you had to rely on putting Koolaid on your hair to get a fun, funky color. Today, those who want to be adventurous with their hair have options. Lots of options.
On the surface, this sounds great. That is, until it comes time to actually decide on a brand. Is Artic Fox Hair Dye the best choice? Or should you try one of the other brands on the market today?
When choosing a hair coloring product, there are some important things to consider. These include the ingredients, how vibrant the color is, and how long it will last.
You also might want to think about how likely the color is to bleed onto your clothing or bedding.
How much money you can expect to spend on these products is also a consideration. Luckily, none of these products are particularly expensive. You can try out these crazy colors at home for a fraction of what you’d end up spending in a salon. And that’s good news for all of us!
But have no fear because we’re gonna cover all that and much, much more. Let’s take a closer look at Arctic Fox Hair Dye and a few of the other brands you can buy that carry similar colors.
Arctic Fox Hair Dye: What You Need to Know
For optimal results using Arctic Fox Hair Dye, start by making sure you have all the supplies you need. First of all, you will need your hair dye brand and color of choice.
Additionally, you will also need latex gloves, coconut oil or petroleum jelly, a bowl for mixing, an old towel, a hair tie, and a shower cap.
The day before make sure you do a patch test by applying a layer of Arctic Fox Hair Dye to a small piece of hair and skin.
The reason for doing a patch test is to ensure you do not have an allergic reaction on your skin and that you like how the color looks on you before you fully commit. Remember, you can have an allergic reaction even if you have used a product before without any issues.
It’s hair dying day!
- First shampoo your hair without conditioner. Dry it completely and divide it up into sections for easy Arctic Fox Hair Dye application.
- Use your coconut oil or petroleum jelly to protect your hairline, ears, and neck. Make sure you cover all the areas close to application. You can use a towel over your shoulders to protect the back of your neck and shoulders. We also recommend wearing clothes you don’t care about, in case some dye escapes.
- Making sure you’ve put on your gloves, begin to mix your hair dye in a bowl.
- Begin application! You can use your hands or a brush if that’s easier. You’ll want to go in sections from the bottom up, making sure you don’t miss any areas.
- Once you’ve covered your entire head in Arctic Fox Hair Dye, put a shower cap on and wait for 30 minutes, at least. Wait longer if you want a darker, more vibrant color.
- Using cold water, rinse the dye out. Do not use shampoo or conditioner. Keep rinsing until the water is running completely clear.
- Make sure your hair is completely dry before you go to bed, in order to avoid staining your pillows and sheets.

Arctic Fox Hair Dye Product Specs

Arctic Fox Hair Dye stands out in its attention to keeping you and your hair healthy as well as being a cruelty-free product. All in all, they’re a brand you can feel proud of supporting.
They’re 100% vegan & cruelty-free, and 15% of each purchase is donated to help animals. To keep you healthy, they use non-GMO protein, added conditioner, no peroxide or ammonia, and they’re PPD free.
They also go above and beyond when it comes to long-lasting hair color with less bleeding and smearing onto clothes and pillows. Their dye is semi-permanent, to keep dying your hair fun and versatile.
A unique feature of this brand is their UV neon range, for hair that will (potentially) be seen from space.
How Artic Fox Hair Dye Compares
We picked a couple of similar products available on the market to see how they compare. There are great options in the hair-dying world, and many are vegan and pay attention to ingredients, which is great.
Remember that with so many choices, there’s no reason to settle when it comes to your hair or body’s health.

RAW Twisted Teal Hair Color
Twisted Teal Hair Color is a vegetable-based dye that is cruelty-free and made in the United States. It will last you between 16 and 30 washes and stands out for being semi-permanent.
Permanent color will last longer than semi-permanent dye. This saves you money but is a lot more of a commitment. As long as you’re ready for that teal color to last, and you’ve got the patience to work with a thick formula, this is a great option!
Pros
- Not patchy, due to very dark colors.
- Demi lasts a bit longer than semi-permanent dye.
- Long lasting.
- Bright, vibrant, unique colors that can be mixed. Many shades are a unique neon tone.
- Healthy on hair, which makes dying relatively risk-free.
Cons
- They recommend pre-lightening your hair, for most colors
- Very messy and dyes everything it comes in contact with.
- Thick dye consistency which makes it harder to use.
Manic Panic After Midnight Blue Hair Dye Color
Manic Panic comes in a bowl shape, which makes for easier use. It’s Vegan and PPD free. It has a new Amplified Formula which lasts 30% longer than the original cream formula.
That being said, people found that the color still doesn’t last as long as other brands. While the color fades more quickly, this is a good option for kids, who may change their minds quickly. It’s also great for kids, due to the healthy ingredients included.
If you’re going the blue route, After Midnight is a strong choice because it does not fade to purple, which is a common problem amongst other brands.
Pros
- Dark blue color stays blue and does not go purple like many other brands.
- Does not stain your bathroom.
Cons
- Color changes after 3-4 weeks.
- Fades more rapidly than other brands.
Good Dye Young Semi-Permanent Vegan & Cruelty-Free Cream Hair Dye Color
Good Dye Young is Paramore’s Hayley Williams’ hair dye company. The brand is all about creativity and freedom of expression, which we can get behind.
The dye is a tad bit on the expensive side though. That may be because it is botanically Infused with natural sunflower and other natural conditioners.
It could also be because Hayley Williams is giving her celebrity endorsement to it. Unless you’re a big Paramore fan and wish to be like them, the steep cost may not be worth it.
Pros
- Smells nice.
- Vegan and cruelty-free product.
- Very pigmented.
Cons
- Comes out of gray hair quickly.
- Strong pigmentation may lead to bleeding/ruining of clothes.
- Not many color options.
- You’re paying for the celebrity endorsement.
Final Word on Artic Fox Hair Dye

Overall, Arctic Fox Hair Dye stands out amongst its competitors. It loses a few points for not coming in a bowl shape that can be easily mixed in.
However, most competitors also don’t come in a bowl container. Arctic Fox has also thought this con through for you. If you don’t have a bowl, you’re willing to get dirty you can get a Rainbow Tint Bowl, with a segment for each color in it.
This is useful if you want to do a mermaid hair look. You can also get a dye brush, color-coded for if you’re doing streaks or applying multiple colors that you don’t want to mix.
The only other con for Arctic Fox Hair Dye is that they don’t have a very expansive list of color options and most colors are a very dark, vibrant color. It’s a brand going for a very specific, dramatic look.
That being said, if you do find the color for you, Arctic Fox Hair Dye is the way to go. We love that they’re cruelty-free and we love the attention they’ve put into making sure Arctic Fox Hair Dye users aren’t negatively affected by their product.
Hair stays soft, scalps stay healthy, there’s no itching or allergic reactions, and Arctic Fox has been sure to leave out nasty chemicals and GMO products.
Arctic Fox also has an incredible and unique UV Reactive Neon range. These colors practically glow in the dark they’re so vibrant. Users will be sure to turn heads.
Arctic Fox Hair Dye may run a bit more expensive, but it’s worth it to ensure you and your hair are healthy. Also, remember that 15% of every purchase goes to helping animals!
If you go the Arctic Fox Hair Dye route, you’ll be able to choose from a myriad of colors.

Experimenting at home doesn’t have to be expensive like going to the salon. That being said, it’s important to keep in mind that if you have long hair, you may need more than one bottle to cover your entire head. The more hair, the more product you’ll need.
There are other hidden costs, like the cost of bleach if you need to lighten your hair. Remember, just because your hair dye brand is conscientious of your health that does not mean bleach is.
There are always risks to hair health when you apply bleach and, in general, it’s not that good for you. This is why Arctic Fox Hair Dye is such a great choice.
Their vibrant colors will allow even the darkest hair to have dying options. You could try colors like Purple Rain or Transylvania.
People with light hair, rejoice, this is a much easier process for you, and you’ll be able to pick almost any color. Periwinkle, is a fun color that everyone will love on you, especially once you post it to Instagram!

Sonni says
I used Arctic Fox in “Denim Blue “. It came out darker than I wanted but has since lightened up to a beautiful color. I wish I had known about the electric mist diluter so I could have played with the color a little bit. All in all I was very pleased with the product. I tried to use manic panic and blue steel but my natural hair color now is white and the manic panic didn’t hold to it at all.
Angel says
Just a correction from a frequent dyer: It’s not called purple rain anymore; it’s called purple af. That changed a while ago.
Jenni Haward says
Great! Thanks for the correction about this new term of purple rain. I’ll probably tease my sister about this because she keeps saying who uses my purple rain permanent hair color hahaha!
Brenda says
My go to brand has always been ion but have used Arctic Fox, which lasts longer and doesn’t bleed (my number one reason for using). I have the Virgin Pink on right now. It is SUPER rich in color and (pre lightened) will last a LONG time. Oh- Arctic Fox colors tend to rinse almost CLEAR, so you have to rinse GOOD to make sure you’re good to go.
As far as I’m concerned, Arctic Fox has NO “cons”.
Jenni Haward says
Cool! Although we have different textures and types of hair, sometimes we’ve experienced similar effects. And somehow we have different tastes in terms of the products we are using for our hair. Gladly that product for you has no cons, the same with my sister also.
